I recently got my laptop working again, but instead of running windows XP like i was, im now runing Linux Ubuntu 11.10. I followed the guide in the forums here for installing TTE for an older version of Ubuntu, learned a few things along the way but i still cant launch or update my TTE. It wont even show me the splash lol. i just get a Dark wind icon that pops up for a moment then goes away.

can anyone help me find a way to successfully install/run TTE on my Ubuntu 11.10 Operating System?

WINE, but it's iffy.

best bet would be to use wine. you will also have to get the wine tools and another wine package (the name eludes me at the moment) that includes the vb6 runtimes. When you log into TTE and it comes up unable to contact svc.tripletriadonline.com add it to your whitelist for you firewall.

I have "Wine," "WineTricks" and a bunch of other wine stuff (ad-ons, etc.)
still cant get it to work

i also found something called "PlayOnLinux"
which seemed promising- but to run it needs to connect to its own website,
which, of course, for some odd reason it cant do
even if im looking at said site in an adjacent window.
...
if i ever figure this out, and can definitively say i know what exactly made things work
ill post it on the forums here for others,
but its lookin like by the time i get this working- i wont remember all the different things ive done to fix the problem lol
of course by then it may even be a combination of what ive done and what i will do that works out lol

did you make sure to select the vb6 runtimes from winetricks when you installed it? another thing you may want to try is installing the windows version of the runtimes from wine = vbrun60sp5.exe

Vmware then innstall windows thats what i did last year.

I started the whole process over from the beginning,
re-did everything ive read here from you guys
and now i can get in and play
but i need to fix the Advancement screen / rules problem.
I can play OTT im happy with that tbh lol
