| Chapter 1 The Questrian lands were covered in a wet mist, and a gloom spread over it like a blanket. Most had deserted these forsaken lands, but a small group remained loyal to their leader. Brenton calmly made his way up to the run down fortress where Laxer, Questria’s ruler, resided. “What’s your report?” said Laxer coldly. “Sir, there remains but 50 loyal to you, and more are preparing to depart,” replied Brenton. “And what do you intend to do about it, Brenton” continued Laxer. “In all due respect Sir, I’ve done about as much as I can. There’s no way for me to force people to stay. Besides, isn’t it your job to keep the lands thriving, so people want to stay?” “Do you accuse me of Questria’s demise?! I will not take such abuse from the likes of you, or anyone for that matter. Guards, throw this traitor out. If he returns, you have my permission to kill him on sight.” “Sir, I only meant to…” “Guards, remove him NOW,” yelled Laxer, his voice echoing across the entire fortress. Brenton calmly raised his hand as if to halt the oncoming guards. “Let me save you the trouble,” he said quietly, and in a flash he was gone. Brenton strolled sadly on the side of a dirt road, dejected and lonely. All of his efforts had been overlooked by the Questrian leaders. He remained loyal during the mass exodus of most Questrians, trying to stay close at hand while Laxer was in need. However, the moment he began disagreeing with Laxer, he was cruelly treated. From that time on, he knew it was only a matter of time until either his death or banishment. This knowledge did not relieve his feeling of betrayal, though. He felt it odd that the so-called “betrayer” was the one who felt betrayed. It was now time for a new beginning. Brenton didn’t know where this new path would lead him, but somehow he knew a brighter future lay ahead. A few leaves rustled behind him, and a few twigs cracked from the weight of an unseen figure. Believing Laxer had sent guards to kill him, Brenton quickly became invisible. However, a frail looking man emerged from the forest into open view. His eyes were watery, and his beard long and white. He walked with a staff at a very slow pace. The old man then stopped and smiled. “Dear Brenton, there is no need to hide from me,” he said, still smiling. Reappearing, Brenton looked upon the man in disbelief. “This can’t be…” said Brenton slowly. “You were killed, I saw it with my own two eyes. Laxer, he killed you. You were surrounded. You were without your staff. There's no possible way..., “ he continued. “Right you are, friend. There was no possible way. However, we’ll leave that tale for another day. We have more pressing matters to deal with. Brenton, we need your help building a new kingdom. Powerful wizards are needed for its protection against the Dark Lords of Questria.” “I’m no powerful magician, Andrew. My abilities are only good for things of minor importance. Other magicians would be much…” “Quiet, Brenton. Your humility is admired, but don’t underestimate yourself. There are few wizards with your kind of knowledge and power. Without your aid, we will be greatly hindered. So, I ask you, will you join us in the building of a new kingdom?” Brenton took no hurry answering Andrew’s question. He sat down in the grass and pondered a while. Andrew did not try to hurry him, though. Great wizards take time making great decisions. “Listen, if he won’t join, I will,” came a voice suddenly. The two wizards ignored the voice completely, as if it were just a whispering of the wind. “Excuse me?! I’m in. This new kingdom…thing…I’ll help.” “Shhhhh,” said Andrew in reply. The man felt offended and belittled. He didn’t deserve this kind of treatment. After all, he was well known, being one of the most infamous thieves (though no one could prove it) around. “Alright, I’ll join Andrew,” chimed in Brenton. “Great, and we’ll be glad you have you as well, DaBrain. Two well experienced thieves will be much appreciated, as long as they’re on our side,” said Andrew. “Two? Who is the other one?” said DaBrain, with a hint of jealousy. “J102Y, of course. Sure, he may be a robot, but as long as you keep him well oiled, there are few thieves that match his ability.” DaBrain folded his arms and looked grudgingly at the old wizard. He felt it unfair that J102Y was contacted before him, especially considering DaBrain’s reputation. “Come now DaBrain, we didn’t contact you because we knew you’d contact us. It sure made my job much easier, and I thank you for that.” “How…? Stop reading my mind!” Andrew chuckled to himself, and got to his feet. He then helped Brenton up, and talked to the small group. “Now listen, Laxer has spies everywhere. Use your keen ears to track them DaBrain, since they are all wearing anti-magic cloaks. Brenton and I won’t be able to sense them. Sadly enough, you’re adventure in the Questrian lands do not end yet, Brenton. There remains one amongst Questria that we must free. Questrians will not permit our intrusion on their lands, and they will try to kill us if we are spotted. Brenton and I will remain invisible, and you’ll have to use your stealth DaBrain. All in all, it should be a fun adventure.” The two nodded and DaBrain’s mouth lit up in a grin. As they reached Questria’s outskirts, Andrew and Brenton disappeared, and DaBrain vanished behind the trees, staying close to the other two. “Ah, just one more thing DaBrain…try not to steal too much stuff while we’re here,” said Andrew with a grin that no one could see. “Yeah, right” laughed DaBrain as the three entered Questria’s domain once more.

| Any good Chronicle series has a creation chapter. Just be thankful mine is short .Chapter 2 Atom surveyed the barren lands. It was coated with dust and boulders, daring any life to try to survive within its boundaries. To most, it would seem like transforming these lands to anything worthy of residence to be quite impossible. Birds flew above him, screeching dreadful noises in the still air. Atom took notice of their cry, and seemed to understand their language. He wandered to the boulder which lay beneath the creatures. Climbing to its top, he noticed a thin crack running along its center. A smirk formed on his face, and a glow developed in his eye. Atom placed his hand on the crack as he bent his head and closed his eyes. Suddenly, the crack widened little by little, till water started sputtering out the gap. The creatures swooped down to drink of the new found water and their screeching stopped. Atom climbed back down and watched the birds fill themselves with the liquid. Water continued pouring out long after the birds were satisfied, and it showed no signs of slowing. A pond had soon formed, which grew larger until it was a lake of substantial size. Atom stayed close at hand to admire the beauty of the lake’s formation. “Water, the essence of life,” Atom whispered to himself. Realizing there was still much to do still, Atom turned his back on the ever-growing lake. Shoving his hand in his pocket, he grabbed a handful of curious looking seeds. He then whistled a delightful tune and hundreds of little beasts protruded from the ground. Atom bent down and gave each a seed. They scurried away out of sight for but a moment, and returned waiting for another seed. Soon, the seeds had been depleted and the beasts plunged back into their holes. “Any moment now…” said Atom and shortly thereafter, trees began sprouting from the ground. They soared high until they stood tall and firm. The trees were green as can be and let off a wonderful scent. The work continued and soon the entire country had been transformed into a beautiful landscape. It almost seemed like heaven on earth. Waterfalls let fall sparking water into beautiful basins. Green mountains and rolling hills commanded the viewer’s attention as they remained firm and unmovable. The little beasts, no longer hiding in their holes, were playing in long grass and small pools. Other uncommon creatures such as unicorns and dryads lolled within the prairies, conversing amongst themselves. All in all, Atom seemed very satisfied with his work. “The New Kingdom is almost complete, but not yet…” said Atom to a hamster-looking creature. “But we will leave that to another day, little friend” he continued, and with that, he lifted his hood over his head and slept on the soft grass, his head propped by one of the small boulders he had begun with.
